Ballynakill & Surroundings Historical Group is a historical society focused on Ballynakill civil parish and it’s surrounding areas in South-East Galway and North-East Clare. Ballynakill civil parish has an area of 93 square miles situated in the Sliabh Aughty mountains with Lough Derg marking it’s eastern boundary.

The focus of the group is to promote the heritage, culture, and history of this area through the following activities:

• Documenting, photographing, and mapping historical sites in the area
• Organising field trips to sites of interest
• Publication of articles on various aspects of the history of the area
• Holding regular talks by members and invited guests

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the history of the area, all are welcome.
